Cocos 3D Cloud Exhibition Solution Powers BCS 2020 International Summit
2020-09-23 By:BCS 2020

After ChinaJoy Plus, White Nights, and Huawei HDC, the Cocos engine has new applications in the field of online exhibitions—the 2020 Beijing Cyber Security Conference Cloud Exhibition built by Tianmai Juyuan (Beijing) Media Technology Co., Ltd. based on the Cocos Creator 3D engine (Referred to as BCS 2020).

3D Cloud Exhibition Hall

BCS 2020 is directed by China Electronics and co-hosted by Qi-Anxin Group, China Internet Association, China Cyberspace Security Association, China Institute of Communications, China Friendship Promotion Association, and many other institutions. The exhibition was open from August 7th to 16th this year.
Based on the Cocos Creator 3D engine, BCS 2020 created a 3D “cloud exhibition hall,” allowing more than 300 well-known cybersecurity companies at home and abroad to break the boundaries of time and space. Exhibitors could now realize online interaction with customers through the “cloud exhibition hall”, truly having a brand new experience of “integration of exhibition and sales”.

By visiting the BCS 2020 cloud exhibition hall online, netizens can not only experience new technologies and scenarios of cybersecurity but also learn about the latest technology of cybersecurity through fun quizzes, generating personalized posters, watching live sessions of products, listening to speeches from cybersecurity technology experts, etc.

The BCS 2020 Cloud Exhibition takes life as a floating city that is divided into eight areas: comprehensive security service providers, professional field security service providers, information construction and services, IT application & innovation industry, associations and alliances, governments and institutions, 2022 Winter Olympics sponsors, media, and consulting agencies.

More than 300 well-known enterprises and network security vendors, including China Unicom, Ant Financial, and ZTE, with their latest security products and solutions, are distributed in an orderly manner among the areas, which are cleverly connected by roads, rivers, bridges, and other elements.
Each building has its own characteristics according to the scale of the exhibitors and is prominently marked with the exhibitor’s name. By clicking on the building to enter the exhibition hall, users will be able to experience various products and scenes in a 360-degree, all-round, and immersive way.

Interview with the development team

There are 30 members in the BCS 2020 cloud exhibition project team, including 20 R&D workers and 10 artists, and the development cycle was only two weeks. To complete the construction of a cloud exhibition in such a short period of time shows the R&D and management strength of Tianmai Juyuan, and the team’s selection of ideas, strategies and tools is equally important.
Recently, we contacted the behind-the-scenes development team of the Cloud Expo, Tianmai Juyuan, and interviewed with Tianmai Juyuan’s Vice President of Product Marketing Hulunfu and Project Manager Xu Xu.
Tianmai Juyuan is an advanced TV big data cloud computing and new media technology company in China, operating the world’s largest TV cloud computing base, providing efficient and convenient video and new media products and services.
Before Cybersecurity Cloud Expo, Tianmai Juyuan has undertaken many interactive display projects for the radio and television industry, including SARFT and major Chinese TV media. For example, in the first half of the year, Tianmai Juyuan implemented the China United Booth online platform construction project for SARFT, helping Chinese film and TV companies to participate in various international cloud exhibitions in the form of cloud booths.
Q: We noticed that the show was presented in a web-based format, so why not use a native app for distribution?
The reason why HTML5 was adopted in this cloud exhibition is that it is convenient for communication, and HTML5 can be put on platforms with massive traffic such as WeChat and Toutiao, and at the same time, it can be embedded in various clients. The native app is relatively closed and not accessible for users to introduce.
Q: How compatible is Cocos Creator’s 3D engine on the web?
Cocos Creator 3D engine has excellent compatibility on the web, requiring only two separate resolutions for PC and mobile.

Q: The cloud exhibition has many multimedia display requirements, such as 3D exhibitions, 3D pavilions, videos, web pages, etc. Have you encountered any difficulties in ensuring the uniformity of this content?
The major problem encountered in implementing this project is the uniformity of the size, proportion, and quality of the various display elements. It is difficult to solve the problem of experience consistency for multiple phones correctly. The program has to deal with content loading, slow content loading due to concurrency, the large number of models, and how to optimize the number of model faces to ensure the best model display while considering the user experience during content loading.
The solution is to set art resource specifications. For example, the sum of all the polygon model faces should be less than 100,000, the maximum size of the model map should be 1024*1024px, and so on.

Q: Why did you choose the Cocos Creator’s 3D engine to develop this project? What sets the cloud show apart from games and applications in terms of technology selection?
We chose Cocos Creator’s 3D engine because the technical team was familiar with Cocos Creator and had developed work with it before. When there was a need for 3D HTML5 at the cloud show, the first thing that came to our mind was Cocos Creator, which was perfect for our technology. The cloud show is just like a game in terms of technology, no special needs.

Q: Would you consider a multiplayer real-time online architecture in the future? What new possibilities will it bring to the cloud show?
No consideration yet, the cloud show is still mainly one-way communication, no social properties.
Q: Looking at cloud show opportunities and trends in the post-epidemic era, do you think cloud shows will disappear? Or will it evolve into an essential form of an exhibition?
According to the information obtained from the contact and communication between Tianmai Juyuan and its customers in the past two years, Tianmai judges that the cloud exhibition will not disappear but will become a critical exhibition form that coexists with offline exhibitions. In particular, after the widespread application of 5G technology and the maturing of VR/AR technology, the application of the cloud exhibition mode will become more common.

Cocos 3D technology powers content production

The 3D cloud exhibition adopts Web 3D technology + 3D digital model technology to simulate offline scenes, allows visitors to interact and immerse themselves in the virtual space with a 3D perspective, which is different from the 2D “grid-based” interactive experience. This approach breaks through the time and space limitations of offline exhibitions, and also takes into account the advantages of immersive user experience in offline scenes.
We liked to thank Tianmai for choosing the Cocos engine and using it to create such a great 3D cloud show in just two weeks so that the general public can experience all kinds of cybersecurity scenarios and products in a 360-degree, comprehensive, and immersive way without going out.
The use of the BCS 2020 cloud show also proves once again that the Cocos engine has powerful advantages in the online exhibition space: high-quality PBR rendering capabilities of Cocos Creator 3D; high performance rendering support for WebGL2; web, mini-game and native cross-end packaging capabilities for publishing ready-to-use experiences for web pages, as well as to mini-games and native platforms to maximize distribution capabilities; and a convenient editor for efficient content production.
In the future, Cocos will help more “cloud exhibitions” to be innovative with more entertaining, interactive experience and open system design.
